FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy, often referred to as “talk therapy”,  is a process for treating mental health concerns by talking with a licensed mental health professional.  The actual experience greatly depends on the therapist.

What should I consider when choosing a therapist?

The most important factor in finding a therapist is to find someone that you feel comfortable and safe with. Your therapist should be someone that you “click with” and that “gets you”. I offer a complimentary 20-minute consultation where you can feel free to discuss what you want to work on, ask any questions you may have, and get a feel for how we might work together. If you decide we are a good fit, the next step would be to schedule a full session.

How do sessions with you work?

The first full session will vary from those that follow as it will be focused on gathering information (such as key life events or milestones) and setting goals. Following this session, the therapeutic journey can begin.

We are partners in the journey. You are the expert in your own life. I am the expert in the work. Together, we will forge a therapeutic relationship that is a powerful agent for change. I am adept at tailoring my approach to the unique needs of each client. I bring all of my training and experience (clinical, corporate, life) into our sessions. My style is warm, collaborative and interactive. I provide a safe and non-judgmental environment where you can feel comfortable to do your best work. My commitment to you is to provide ethically sound therapeutic and coaching services of the highest quality. To get the most benefit out of therapy, I encourage you to be engaged and authentic in session.

Where do sessions take place?

Sessions are available by phone or video.

How long will therapy last?

The unique nature of individuals results in unique paths to growth and change. Lasting change occurs at your own pace. At the end of each session, we will check in on where you are in your individual journey.

Do you accept insurance?

I am an out-of-network provider for all plans. Many insurance policies offer reimbursement to see an out-of-network therapist and you can consult with your insurance company on your coverage. If you have a policy that provides reimbursement, I can provide you with an invoice to submit to your insurance company for out-of-network reimbursement directly back to you.

By being out-of-network and private pay, you receive the highest degree of privacy, flexibility, and control of your treatment and medical records. (You will not be required to have a mental health diagnosis and the number of sessions will not be dictated.)

Is therapy right for me?

If you are committed to making a change, you can benefit from therapy. Therapy is appropriate whether you are seeking relief from an immediate stressor or wanting to change a long-term pattern. Through good therapeutic work, you can gain new insights and access proven tools that empower you to better navigate life’s challenges with less distress and more satisfaction. You can learn to develop mastery over your thoughts and behaviors, live a more balanced life, and experience more joy.
